Did you know that our DNA is 70% the same as mice? Even bananas still share about 60% of the same DNA as humans! And between a human and another human the similarity is more than 99.9%.

The fact that all organisms on this planet have significant similarity across their DNA or genetic material, led scientists to believe that we have evolved from the common ancestors. That evolutionary journey starting from the primordial chemical soup that first gave rise to a universal common ancestor (or common ancestral community) and evolved into life as we know it over more than 3.5-3.8 billion years ago, is commonly referred to as the phylogenetic tree or the tree of life. Explore this module to learn more about the evolutionary tree.
